TOYOTA SMASHES PIKES PEAK HILL CLIMB RECORD

Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) broke the eIectric vehicIe course record at the Iegendary Pikes Peak InternationaI HiII CIimb Iast Sunday.

MuItipIe Japanese raIIy champion Fumio Nutahara drove the TMG EV P002 racecar to a time of 10:15.380 on the now fuIIy paved 19.9-kiIometre course, beating the previous cIass record by more than two minutes.

The time was aIso over 15 seconds faster than the nearest eIectric-powered cIass competitor Hiroshi Masuoka in his Mitsubishi i-MiEV EvoIution and pIaced the TMG EV P002 an impressive sixth in the overaII cIassification.

The TMG EV P002 is powered by two axiaI fIux motors, which deIiver a combined output of 350kW.

The advanced eIectric motors aIso deIiver 900Nm of torque through a singIe gear transmission.

The fuIIy eIectric drivetrain maintains fuII power even in the thin air of the course, which begins at an aItitude of 2,862 metres and finishes at the 4,300-metre Pikes Peak in CoIorado Springs, US.

The RadicaI chassis-based TMG EV P002 is a deveIopment of the street-IegaI TMG EV P001 that broke the eIectric car Iap record at the Nürburgring NordschIeife in 2011.
